(Pictures)Western Regional Security Council intensifies galamsey fight along Bonsa River; seizing excavators and chanfangs
The Western Regional Security Council in collaboration with National Anti-Illegal Mining Secretariat (NAIMOS) Task Force, and Blue Water Guards have conducted a joint operation against illegal mining activities along the heavily polluted Bonsa River in the Tarkwa Nsuem Municipality, Western Region, on Monday, September 15, 2025.this is part of renewed efforts to deal with the environmental degradation being perpetuated by illegal miners.


At Bonsawireh Sikaman, a notorious illegal mining community, the Task Force found abandoned excavators, and detached the control boards from two serviceable ones due to logistical challenges.

A source close to the operation highlighted the need to resource the Taskforce to ensure effectiveness in its activities.
"The operation highlighted the need for Lowbed services to enhance the Task Force's effectiveness and better mobile network coverage in remote areas," a source told WestCoast TV.
