EKMA Welcomes Feed Ghana Team to the Western Region; lauds the impact on schools
The Municipal Chief Executive for the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA), Abdul Majeed Dokurgu, in the company of the Western Regional Director of Agriculture, has received a delegation from the Feed Ghana Program led by the Deputy Coordinator, Mr. Asubonteng Frimpong.
This was done on behalf of the Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson.
The Feed Ghana Program under the Ministry of Food and Agriculture is an initiative, introduced by the John Dramani Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government. According to the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly, the initiative is one that will encourage schools within the municipality improve on their food production from their schools farms.
"This is a laudable step towards encouraging institutional farming, particularly in our secondary schools. It was encouraging to note that many schools in the region already operate school farms, though they face challenges with limited access to mechanization equipment, especially tractors, which hinders their ability to reach full production potential," they wrote on the Assembly's Facebook wall. .
EKMA explains that the Feed Ghana Program, through its Farm Service Centers, is expected to address these mechanization gaps and support institutions to expand their farming activities.
"The Western Regional Minister has further encouraged all institutions, including churches, to take advantage of this important program and actively participate in boosting food production for the benefit of our communities," they wrote.
